The Casual Necktie

While you might be unfamiliar with the idea of wearing a tie casually, but it can be a great way to add a suave touch to a casual outfit. Sporting a tie with a casual outfit will differentiate you from the crowd of ordinary men, without even trying too hard. Take your collared shirt and denims to the next level with a tie.

Here are a few tips to maximize that casual tie look:

Loosen that Knot: When you want to add a tie to your attire, without grabbing too many eyeballs, just loosen the knot. To give your formal wear a laid back look, leave the top button undone and the tie a little loose. However, you need to be careful when loosening the knot. Loosen the knot by only about an inch or an inch and a half. Loosening it more will make you look like just another one of those Avril Lavigne fans. You wouldn’t want that now, would you?

Layer your Outfit: If you are wearing a tie casually with the top button undone, the tie loosened and the sleeves rolled up a bit, consider layering your torso to enhance the casual look. Anything above the tie and the shirt would work. A vest, sweater, jacket or sweater vest would be a good choice. Even plain, long sleeved T-shirts could work well as a casual layer.

Try the Knit Tie: Pair a casual cotton shirt (maybe chambray) with a knit tie. The tie’s knit will complement the shirt’s texture. Throw in a pair of un-pressed chinos to complete the low key look. Silk knit ties are a good option.

Try the Repp Tie: Repp ties look really nice with a suit but you can create that casual look by pairing these striped collegiate ties with a cardigan and a pair of dark jeans. Try and match the shirt’s color with the color of the thin stripe on the tie.
